We discussed the Scholastic News Article in class today about the 2012 Presidential Elections. We discussed the fact that there are two major "parties" that represent different ideas about government and the running of our country: the Democratic Party, with President Barack Obama as it's "contestant" in the race, and the Republican Party which has yet to choose a "nominee".
Once the Republican Party votes and chooses a leader, the race will be on: who will win the election and be the next president of te United States? I encourage you to discuss the article at home, and share what your thoughts are. Here are some ideas: Since the article was written, which Republican candidate is still in the race? Who seems to be winning? What do you think about the two major issues in this years elections; improving JOBS and ending the WAR in Afghanistan? If you were voting to choose the Republican candidate, who would you choose and why? Happy debating!
If you have any supplemental articles on the topic of elections that you think may be interesting for your child to share, you are welcome to send them in! We will do our best to try and discuss it in class.
